It’s almost impossible to miss.
Sean Couturier, the Flyers' top shutdown centerman, has a beard worthy of being aired on Duck Dynasty.
Couturier doesn’t trim it either, which is why it’s become so shaggy. Several players have beards, but none as scruffy as his. You could hide a puck in it.
“I just got lazy [with shaving] and we started winning,” Couturier said. “Things started going well and we were back in the playoff hunt.”
Obviously, the 21-year-old is a tad superstitious at this point about trimming it.
“Yeah … I’m kind of afraid to shave it and take the luck off us,” he said.
So does this beard make Couturier more menacing-looking when he goes up against Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin or Jonathan Toews?
“I’d like to think that," he said. "But at the same time, I don’t want all the tough guys coming at me.”
What if the Flyers – and his beard – last into June’s Stanley Cup Final? What will he look like?
“I don’t know,” Couturier said. “I’m kind of scared to think about.
He could re-grow it once the playoffs begin.
“I don’t know; I will think about it,” he said.
Flyers captain Claude Giroux has been wearing a beard for months, as well. His is neatly-trimmed.
“I’m not going to [keep] mine as long as him, but it’s pretty funny how thick it is right now,” Giroux said. “How longs has it been? Three months? It’s pretty big right now.”
