World Championship Wrap: Giroux leads Canada past Belarus

Behind a spirited game from Flyer Claude Giroux, Canada beat Belarus 4-1 Friday.

Giroux registered a goal and two helpers in Canada's win. Giroux's marker came in the third period and gave Canada 4-0 lead.

The Flyers' captain picked up helpers on Canada's second and third goals.

Alexei Yefimenko snapped Canada's shutout streak at 145:34 when he scored a late tally on Devan Dubynk, who faced only 10 shots.

Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos added two points -- a goal and an assist -- while  Winnipeg's Andrew Ladd and Ryan O’Neill added goals for Canada. See a full recap at iihf.com.

Finland tops Russia
Petri Kontiola netted two goals and Juhamatti Aaltonen scored the eventual game winner as Finland beat Russia 3-2 Friday.

Kontiola opened the scoring with his first at 3:22 in the first period when he beat Russian goalie Seymon Varlamov with a slapper.

He added his second goal with four minutes left in the second period.

Varlamov made his second start of the tournament with Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov backing him up. See a full recap at iihf.com.

Czechs use third to beat Slovenia
With the game tied 2-2 after two periods, Czech Republic stormed past Slovenia in the third period to win 4-2 Friday.

In the third period, the Czechs took a 3-2 lead on the power play. Zbynek Michalek gave Czech Republic the lead when he scored on a shot from the point.

Flyers forward Jakub Voracek picked up two assists in the win. Jiri Novotny gave the Czechs an insurance goal later in the third. See a full recap at iihf.com.

Vanek lifts Austria past Slovakia
Sabres winger Thomas Vanek propelled Austria to a 2-1 shootout victory over Slovakia Friday with a regulation goal and the winning tally in the shootout.

Austria's goalie Bernhard Starkbaum stopped all three Slovakian shooters he faced in the shootout.

Gerhard Unterluggauer scored Slovakia's lone goal. See a full recap at iihf.com
