Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono has survived four training sessions that included 26 of the top 19-and-under players to be named as one of 16 finalists to make the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship team.
Arcidiacono averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 assists and 2.1 rebounds in his freshman season with the Wildcats. He had 10 points in 33 minutes in Villanova’s 78-71 lost to North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
USA U19 and University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan will trim the roster down to 12 players before the team departs on June 19 for three days of training at the Washington Wizards’ practice facility in Washington D.C.
"We still have to get down to 12 players and the challenge right now is to see how these 16 guys fit into what we're trying to do.” Donovan said in a statement. “We’ll learn a lot more in the next three practices.”
The 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship begins June 24 and ends July 6 in Prague, Czech Republic. In the 2011 U19 World Championship, Team USA lost to Russia, 79-74, in the quarterfinals.
