D.J. Peterson isn’t leaving La Salle after all.

Four days after the school announced his intentions to leave the Explorers to move closer to his Minnesota home, the starting guard reconsidered his decision.

“D.J. is close to his family and has missed them during his long absences from home,” coach John Giannini said. “He also is close to his La Salle teammates. After deciding to transfer, he spoke with his parents and teammates and has since decided to stay at La Salle.

“D.J.’s decision is strictly personal and not basketball-related.”

Peterson started 18 of the 34 games he appeared in last season. The 6-foot-5, 190-pounder averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, and was La Salle’s second best shooter from distance, at 40 percent.

Peterson started all four NCAA tournament games for the Explorers and averaged 25.5 minutes. He had four rebounds and four assists in a two-point win over Ole Miss that sent La Salle to the Sweet 16.

“It is hard for a young person to be pulled in two different directions,” Giannini said. “I respect that D.J. has had to make a difficult personal decision. Our recent success is largely due to our chemistry and family atmosphere. We would support any decisions D.J. makes for his future and we are happy that we will continue to be a part of our team."
