BOX SCORE

Temple had a chance to beat a Top 25 team in back-to-back regular season games for the first time in its history.

But that's hard to do when you can't score.

Rather than make history, the Owls on Thursday night fell to No. 21 UConn, 68-55, at the Liacouras Center.

The loss drops Temple to 7-18 this season and 2-11 in the American. Temple's 18 losses are tied for its most under Fran Dunphy -- the 2006-07 Owls had 18 his first year -- and are also tied for the most in his 25-year coaching career.

UConn, oppositely, moves to 21-5 overall and 9-4 in league play.

Shooting woes
The Owls got off to a solid enough start, taking an 18-12 lead just over 10 minutes into the first half.

But two lengthy stretches without a field goal doomed their chances.

Temple went 6:27 without a field during a stretch from the first half into the second, allowing UConn to rip off a 19-4 run. A Dalton Pepper three from the right wing ended that drought.

After fighting back to only down five at 40-35, Temple then proceeded to go an astonishing 9:48 without a field goal. Once the Owls finally scored, on a Quenton DeCosey layup, they found themselves down 52-40.

Thereafter, they never got any closer than seven.

B.M.O.C.
Shabazz Napier, who scored just two points in the first half, finished with a game-high 17. He was just 3 for 11 from the field but a perfect 11 for 11 from the line.

Three other Huskies -- Ryan Boatright (14), DeAndre Daniels (13) and Amida Brimah (10) -- finished in double figures.

Quenton DeCosey, like Napier, had just two points in the first and finished with a team-high 16 for Temple. Also like Napier, he was 5 of 15 from the foor and 6 of 8 from the line.

Owls leading scorer Dalton Pepper went a horrid 4 for 18 shooting.
