Villanova lands Rice transfer PG Ennis

Point guard Dylan Ennis will be transferring to Villanova, according to a Big East source.

Ennis tweeted Tuesday morning that he is "officially a Villanova Wildcat," although the school has yet to make an announcement.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pound guard averaged 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in his freshman season at Rice University.

As Ennis is not expected to qualify for a waiver, he will be required to sit out a season in accordance with NCAA rules. After redshirting, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.

With Ennis' help still a year away, sophomore Ty Johnson figures to inherit one of the two starting roles in the Villanova backcourt left by departing juniors Maalik Wayns and Dominic Cheek.

Wake Forest point guard Tony Chennault also visited the Main Line earlier this month and is expected to be granted a waiver that would allow him to play for another school immediately. Should Chennault decide to join coach Jay Wright's Wildcats, he would have two years of eligibility remaining and would only overlap with Ennis for one season.

In either case, incoming freshman Ryan Arcidiacono is expected to provide some immediate help in the Villanova backcourt next season.

If Villanova does land Chennault, the program would have four point guards -- Johnson, Chennault, Ennis and Arcidiacono -- on the roster for the 2013-14 season.
