Despite a report to the contrary, Temple does not have a deal yet in any form to join the Big East for the 2012 football season.
CBSSports.com reported Friday that Temple has reached a verbal agreement with the the Big East to join the league in 2012 once it finalizes a settlement to leave the Mid-American Conference.
There is no verbal commitment, no written commitment and no oral commitment, said Patrick J. OConnor, Chairman of Temples Board of Trustees. We are still evaluating. That is a fact.
Already in negotiations with their two current conferences the Mid-American (football) and Atlantic 10 (all other sports) Temple is also in talks with the Big East and Conference USA for the 2012-13 season and beyond.
Were not going to make a decision that hurts our students and puts us at an economic disadvantage, he said. It has to be economically beneficial for Temple.
OConnor said the school is still considering its options and is not facing a specific deadline to make a decision.
Temple is still evaluating whats best for Temple, he said.
