Temple: 4.5
Penn State: 8.5

Those according to the fine people at OddsShark.

We bring this up today (Tuesday), because we're now less than one month away from college football season, and because the first-ever American Athletic Conference preseason conference poll was just released. Listed below are the results of the media poll along with each team's O/U (again, via OddsShark) in parentheses:

1.    Louisville (10.5)
2.    Cincinnati (9.5)
3.    Rutgers (6.5)
4.    UCF (8.5)
5.    USF (5.5)
6.    Houston (5.5)
7.    UConn (5.5)
8.    SMU (5.5)
9.    Temple (4.5)
10.  Memphis (4.5)

Man, that 5.5 number is pretty popular isn't it? As for the Owls' 4.5, here's a look at their 2013 schedule to see if you're interested in the (-170) under or the (+130) over:

  • Aug. 31, at Notre Dame
  • Sept. 7, vs. HOUSTON
  • Sept. 14, vs. FORDHAM
  • Sept. 21, BYE
  • Sept. 28, at Idaho
  • Oct. 5, vs. LOUISVILLE
  • Oct. 11, at Cincinnati (ESPN/ESPN 2)
  • Oct. 19, vs. ARMY
  • Oct. 26, at SMU
  • Nov. 2, at Rutgers
  • Nov. 9, BYE
  • Nov. 16, vs. UCF
  • Nov. 23, vs. UConn
  • Nov. 30, at Memphis

Fordham, Idaho, Army and Memphis are likely wins, meaning the Owls would need to pull out just one other game -- at home against Houston or UConn? on the road at SMU? -- to get to five.

As for the Nittany Lions, the Big Ten poll, released last week, is below, also with O/Us:

Leaders Division
1.   Ohio State (11.5)
2.   Wisconsin (8.5)
3.   Penn State (8.5)
4.   Indiana (5.5)
5.   Purdue (5.5)
6.   Illinois (3.5)

Legends Division
1.   Michigan (9.5)
2.   Nebraska (9.5)
3.   Michigan State (8.5)
4.   Northwestern (8.5)
5.   Iowa (5.5)
6.   Minnesota (5.5)

There's that 5.5 number again, which is code for, "We have no idea what to think about this team and neither do you, so you just tell us if they're going to be bowl eligible or not."

The odds for Penn State, by the way, are +150 on the over and -190 on the under. Who likes what?
