Villanova on Tuesday named Drexel graduate and Philadelphia native Ashley Howard as an assistant coach to the men's basketball team.
Howard served on Xavier's coaching staff last year, when the Musketeers went 17-14 overall and 9-7 in the Atlantic 10. He has previously coached with Drexel and La Salle.
“We’re proud to have Ashley join our Villanova Basketball family,” head coach Jay Wright said in a statement. “I have known Ashley since he was a high school player. He has deep roots in Philadelphia’s basketball tradition and gained an appreciation for the Augustinian values during his days as a student at Monsignor Bonner High School. He will take great pride in representing Villanova.”
Howard brings 10 years of coaching experience to the Wildcats, who finished last year 20-14. Villanova will look to build on last season's run to the NCAA tournament as it enters a newly shaped Big East.
