Following a crazy week in Philadelphia college basketball that saw Villanova and La Salle combine for four upsets over ranked teams, both the Wildcats and Explorers received votes in the newest AP Top 25 poll released Monday afternoon. Villanova (13-7, 4-3 Big East), which beat No. 5 Louisville and No. 3 Syracuse, earned six votes, while La Salle (14-5, 4-2 Atlantic 10) got three votes after beating No. 9 Butler and No. 19 VCU.
La Salle also garnered three votes in the USA TODAY coaches' poll.
Each team also had one of its players honored. Darrun Hilliard, who averaged 18 points in Villanova's pair of upsets, was named the Big East Player of the Week, while Ramon Galloway, whose late shot helped the Explorers upset No. 9 Butler, was recognized as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week.
Hilliard's play was crucial in the Wildcats' upset over the Orange on Saturday, as the sophomore guard scored a career-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting, brought down seven rebounds and dished out six assists without turning the ball over a single time. Against Louisville, the Bethlehem, Pa. native recorded 11 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Galloway, meanwhile, followed up his late-game heroics against Butler with a 31-point performance in the Explorers' win at VCU on Saturday night.
Both teams are back in action Wednesday night, with Villanova playing Notre Dame on and La Salle hosting Massachusetts.
