Villanova's Hilliard named national player of the week

Just one day after being named the Big East player of the week, Villanova guard Darrun Hilliard was honored by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

The USBWA named Hilliard, a 6-6 sophomore, the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 27.  

The Bethlehem, Pa. native led the Wildcats to back-to-back Big East wins over top-five nationally ranked opponents.  On Tuesday, in a 73-64 victory against then-No. 5 Louisville, Hilliard scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds.  He followed up that performance with 25 points and career highs in rebounds and assists, with seven and six respectively, in a 75-71 overtime win against then-No.3 Syracuse.

Hilliard averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds for the week.

Villanova travels to Notre Dame on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. meeting with the Fighting Irish.  The Wildcats are looking to extend their winning streak to three.
