Mike Patterson, whos recovering from off-season brain surgery, joined his teammates at Eagles OTAs on Wednesday. Patterson wasnt a full participant, but did workout on the side with Colt Anderson, who is recovering from ACL surgery.

Patterson said it felt good to be back on the field but wasnt sure when hell fully return.

Well see, Patterson said. You have to talk to Rick Burkholder and Big Red Andy Reid about that when it gets closer but I have a feeling that I will be ready to go for training camp. Ill be ready and Ill be excited to see what happens.

Patterson had brain surgery in January to treat brain AVM. The condition was discovered after Patterson has a seizure during training camp and was rushed to the hospital. Patterson actually returned by the season opener and started the first 15 games of the season before sitting out the finale with flu-like symptoms.

I just know that getting myself in shape, thats whats important, Patterson said. Just taking one day at time, dont get overwhelmed. Im not able to come out here but just take one day at a time. Get some good workouts in and get some good plays and stuff. Its not stressful, but just take it one step at a time.

Patterson is entering his eighth year in the league out of USC and went through a pretty scary training camp incident, not to mention having brain surgery. But through it all, Patterson said he hasnt lost his desire to play football.

I still have the same fire in my stomach, he said. I still want to go out there and play. I still have the same excitement level every time I come out on the field.

Tapp happy to be back
Darryl Tapp sees all the other defensive ends on the Eagles roster. Hes just happy to be one of them.

I feel like this is going to be my second year in a defense for the first time in five years, he said. I understand the defense and Im able to just go out and play.

With Jason Babin, Trent Cole, Brandon Graham and second-rounder Vinny Curry likely to be the definite ends to make the roster, Tapps status might be in question. Hell likely have to battle former CFL player Phillip Hunt.

My main thing is to go out here and get better each day, said Tapp, who said he doesnt worry about his roster spot. My mindframe is to get better in practice and sell out on each play. The rest will sort itself out.
