BOSTON -- Hanley Ramirez homered twice and drove in four runs to rally the Boston Red Sox over New York on Sunday night, completing a four-game sweep that severely diminished the Yankees' chances of winning the AL East.

Jackie Bradley Jr. had a tying RBI single for the East-leading Red Sox, who overcame a rough start by Drew Pomeranz to post their ninth win in 12 games. Boston remained three games ahead of second-place Baltimore, which beat Tampa Bay 2-1 on Sunday.

The Red Sox open a 10-game trip at Baltimore with the first of four games on Monday night.

Gary Sanchez belted his 16th homer since Aug. 3 for the Yankees, who dropped eight back in the division and remained four behind Toronto for the second wild-card spot.

Robby Scott (1-0) got two outs for his first major league win. Koji Uehara got three outs for his seventh save.

Tyler Clippard (1-1) allowed Ramirez's tiebreaking homer in the seventh (see full recap).

Trumbo hits league-leading 43rd homer in Orioles' win
BALTIMORE -- Mark Trumbo hit his major league-leading 43rd home run to break an eighth-inning tie and carry the Baltimore Orioles past the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-1 on Sunday.

Manny Machado also homered for the Orioles, who salvaged a split of the four-game series against the last-place Rays.

Baltimore came in trailing first-place Boston by three games in the AL East and tied with Toronto for the two AL wild cards. The Red Sox and Orioles begin a four-game series at Camden Yards on Monday night.

After missing two straight games with back spasms, Trumbo returned to provide Baltimore with a much-needed win. With one out in the eighth, the Orioles' cleanup hitter drove the first pitch from Ryan Garton (1-1) far over the center-field wall.

Brad Brach (10-3) pitched the eighth and Zach Britton got three outs for his 45th save in 45 tries (see full recap).

Mets complete sweep of Twins
NEW YORK -- Gabriel Ynoa struck out eight over 4 2/3 innings in his first major league start to aid the Mets' rickety rotation, and New York completed a three-game sweep of the woeful Minnesota Twins with a 3-2 victory Sunday.

Michael Conforto drove in two runs with a first-inning, opposite-field single off Kyle Gibson (6-10) and T.J. Rivera added a solo home run in the third. Lucas Duda went 0 for 2 in his return from a stress fracture in his lower back, an injury that had sidelined him since May 20.

New York, a season-high 11 games over .500, won for the 11th time in 14 games despite resting regulars Jose Reyes, Asdrubal Cabrera, James Loney and Curtis Granderson from its starting lineup after Saturday's late-night win, powered by Granderson's home runs in the 11th and 12th innings.

The Mets started the day tied with San Francisco atop the NL wild-card standings, two games ahead of St. Louis, and their 13 games remaining are all against teams with losing records: Atlanta, Philadelphia and Miami (see full recap).

Brewers hand Cubs, Cy Young candidate Hendricks loss
CHICAGO -- Major league ERA leader Kyle Hendricks allowed two runs in six innings and remained stuck on 15 victories as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 Sunday.

Tyler Thornburg struck out Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo with two on in the ninth to earn his 11th save in 16 chances.

The NL Central champion Cubs have lost four of six and are trying to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs. They resumed playing their regulars after clinching the division Thursday.

Chris Carter homered and Martin Maldonado and pitcher Wily Peralta (7-10) added RBI singles for the Brewers, who took three of four games from the Cubs. Milwaukee slugger Ryan Braun got a scheduled day off after hitting two home runs Saturday.

Hendricks (15-8), making his first start since losing a no-hit bid in the ninth inning at St. Louis, struck out nine and gave up six hits. His ERA rose from 2.03 to 2.06 as he lost for the first time since July 26 at the White Sox (see full recap).
