The Phillies will play their final game of the 2012 season at Citizens Bank Park tonight when they take on the Washington Nationals. They'll play out the string with a series in Miami before a season-ender in DC next week. But tonight is the last dance in South Philadelphia.
As Phils beat writer David Murphy lamented on Twitter earlier in the day, this is the first time in half a decade that the Phillies will host a game at CBP knowing it's their final contest there of the season.
With as disappointing as 2012 has been, we'll still be sad to not have baseball to watch down Broad Street for another long winter.
Tyler Cloyd has the honors on fan appreciation night. The Phillies should be extra appreciative this season for the fans that stuck around despite such a rough first few months. Granted, the team has bounced back quite strongly since the trade deadline.
Alas, the gaping chasm between them and the other wild card teams proved just too damn big to overcome.
So pour one out for the 2012 campaign tonight and save a little for next week when they pack their lockers up after a trip to DC.
7:05. Tell your season ticket holder section mates you'll miss them.
Tonight's lineup vs. WAS: Rollins SS, Frandsen 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Mayberry CF, Ruf LF, Brown RF, Kratz C, Cloyd P.
