Source: Eagles, McNabb Progressing on Deal
Tuesday, June 2, 2009CSNPhilly.comThe Eagles are working on a new deal with Donovan McNabb.
A league source has told CSN’s Derrick Gunn that the two sides have been discussing an extension for the past month. They have agreed to pause negotiating an extension until a later date and instead decided to focus on reworking the two years remaining on his current deal. McNabb is scheduled to earn $9.2 million this season and $10 million in 2010.
Earlier this offseason, the 32-year-old McNabb, who is entering his 11th season with the Eagles, reportedly indicated he wouldn’t negotiate a new deal until he saw the moves the team made in the offseason. He did not hold a press conference during the post-draft minicamp and is not scheduled to do so during team's OTAs this month.
In 2002, McNabb signed a 12-year, $115 million extension that had him under contract through 2013. The last three years of that extension were voided, though, when McNabb reached certain incentive clauses.
Last season McNabb set personal marks in passing yards with 3,916, surpassing his own team record set in 2004 when the team had Terrell Owens. His completion percentage of 60.4 was the third best of his career and passer rating of 86.4 was his fourth highest.
