Report: Bulls have inquired about Sixers center Jahlil Okafor

Perhaps you can go home again.

Sources tell CSNChicago.com that the Bulls have inquired about the availability of Chicago native and Sixers big man Jahlil Okafor.

Okafor, the 2015 No. 3 overall pick, has had a rough sophomore season. With the emergence of rookie phenom Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel securing the backup center spot, Okafor has found himself mainly watching from the sidelines of late.

In 33 games this season, the Duke product has averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 23.0 minutes per game.

Despite the dip in playing time and production for Okafor, Sixers head coach Brett Brown has praised what the center deemed "a funky situation."

"The roles that people accept versus the roles that people are given are kind of different," Brown said last month (see story). "To date, I feel like he has handled it like an adult, like a pro, and his spirit has not taken a dent. I intend on trying to keep him believing in himself."

Any team interested in trading for Okafor, who had the third-year option picked up on his contract at the start of the season, is expecting to get the player who averaged 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 30.0 minutes a game as a rookie before having his season cut short by a torn right meniscus.

Even with the logjam at the center position, Sixers president/general manager Bryan Colangelo has made it clear that he is in no rush to ship away one of the team's bigs and that everything would play out on the court.

We'll see if Colangelo witnessed enough to pull the trigger on a deal before the Feb. 23 trade deadline.
