Robert Covington says ‘I'll be fine' after suffering head injury

BOSTON — Robert Covington took a scary spill on Wednesday when he hit his head on the Celtics’ bench and had to leave the game.

Covington suffered a head contusion chasing after a loose ball and colliding with James Young with 3:35 to play in the fourth quarter of the Sixers' 116-108 loss (see Instant Replay). The team attended to him while he lay at the feet of the Celtics’ assistant coaches.

Covington eventually walked off on his own, grabbing his head with both hands.

“I hit it on the chair pretty hard,” Covington said after the game. “I didn’t black out or anything. I didn’t get dizzy. It just started ringing and I had to sit there for a second. Overall, all I think it is right now is a headache.”

Covington does not expect the injury to hold him back from his All-Star weekend plans. He is visiting his alma mater Tennessee State University and taking in some basketball there.

“I’ll be fine,” he said. “I didn’t feel a concussion. I know what that feeling has felt like before. I’m alright.”
