Sixers reveal new Philly-themed ‘Statement Edition' jersey

The Sixers are making a statement with their new jersey.

A fresh thread referred to as the "Statement Edition" uniform was revealed Friday night.

The jersey pays homage to the tradition and history of the Sixers' franchise and the city of Philadelphia, while the cursive lettering serves as a salute to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The Sixers will wear the jersey eight times — three home games, five away games — and three of those occasions will come on contests broadcast by ESPN. The dates for when the Sixers will rep the jersey are to be determined.

Below is a statement on the jersey from Sixers chief sales and marketing officer Chris Heck:

The ‘Statement’ jersey is a reflection of who we are as a city: a city of innovation, revolution, passion and determination. From 76ers icons who paved the way such as Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving and Allen Iverson to today’s promising stars such as Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz and Dario Saric, this jersey recognizes and celebrates both our storied past and exciting future. This is a statement about the incredible tradition of Philadelphia basketball. We’re fortunate to share this moment with our fans, the NBA, Nike and our great partners at StubHub. We are even more excited to share our ‘City’ jersey after the start of the season, which reflects the ‘Spirit of 76.’
