Eagles Injury Update: Mychal Kendricks, Isaac Seumalo not practicing

Zach Ertz (ribs) and Leodis McKelvin (hamstring) won’t be back at practice Wednesday and will be joined by two more non-participants.

Mychal Kendricks, who broke his nose and suffered a quad contusion Monday, will not practice, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said. Same with Isaac Seumalo, who has been dealing with a pectoral strain he suffered before the third preseason game.

Despite practicing last week, and not being listed on the injury report, Pederson said the pec injury has held the rookie back. Seumalo has not yet been active for a game this season.

“It’s still sore, basically,” Pederson said. “It’s healing, but the strength is not back necessarily. We just want to give him this week and just sort of monitor that and get him all the treatment he can and then get him through the bye and then we’ll see where he’s at after that.”

With an offensive line shuffle seemingly on the horizon after Lane Johnson’s suspension begins — Johnson will be able to play Sunday — Seumalo is a candidate to be the team’s starting left guard. Allen Barbre, the team’s current left guard, will shift to right tackle once Johnson is out.

That leaves either Seumalo or veteran Stefen Wisniewski at left guard.

Will this injury hurt Seumalo’s chances of being that starter?

“I don’t think so. Not at all,” Pederson said. “Again, he’s had a lot of reps in there and his preseason reps in there and it wouldn’t set him back. And he’s one of those kids, very sharp kid, very studious kid. Wouldn’t set him back at all.”

Despite saying Tuesday running back Ryan Mathews was hampered by a sore ankle last week in practice, Pederson on Wednesday said Mathews is “fine” and “good to go.”

Starting quarterback Carson Wentz took plenty of shots — some were his own fault — but came out of the game OK.

“Carson came out good,” Pederson said. “A little sore today, but they’re all sore. We’re only two games removed from the game. Just normal game wear and tear.”
