Eagles Injury Update: Ryan Mathews, Jordan Matthews held out Wednesday

On a soggy Wednesday morning, the Eagles got back to practice in their indoor bubble without three offensive starters.

Jordan Matthews (ankle), Ryan Mathews (knee) and Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee) were the only players to not practice Wednesday.

Jordan Matthews, who hurt his ankle Monday night, will be “fine for the game,” head coach Doug Pederson said. X-rays on Matthews’ ankle came back negative.

Ryan Mathews, who sat out Monday night’s loss to Green Bay with an MCL sprain, is “doing better” but is still considered day to day.

Vaitai has a left MCL sprain, but his injury is considered to be more serious. He missed the Packers game and comes into Wednesday still week to week. He’s still “probably a little ways away,” Pederson said.

Right guard Brandon Brooks, who missed Monday’s game after being hospitalized with an illness that caused severe nausea and vomiting, returned Wednesday and should be fine.

Rookie Isaac Seumalo filled in for Brooks against the Packers. He was critical of his play following the game (see story), but Pederson saw things differently.

“Isaac looked good. Isaac played well,” the head coach said. “Wasn’t perfect, by no means. But at the same time, for his first start and really day of the game to start, played well. Filled in well.”

The plan is still for veteran Stefen Wisniewski to play left guard until Vaitai returns and sends Allen Barbre back to his normal position. Pederson said Wisniewski has been playing well.
