Former Eagles WR Dorial Green-Beckham clears waivers, becomes free agent

Thirty-one teams had a chance to claim Dorial Green-Beckham after the Eagles waived him late last week and 31 teams declined.

The former Eagles receiver officially cleared waivers on Wednesday afternoon and is now an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team.

Green-Beckham, waived on Friday, spent just one year with the Eagles after coming over in a trade from the Titans in return for reserve backup Dennis Kelly. At the time, it seemed too good to be true. And it was.

While Green-Beckham (6-5, 237) was the 40th overall pick in 2015 and had a decent rookie season statistically, his one year in Philadelphia didn't go well. In 2016, he had 36 catches for 392 yards and two touchdowns.

Perhaps he'll most be remembered for making a mockery of the NFL's "My Cause, My Cleats" week by wearing Kanye West's Yeezy Cleats for what he called the "Yeezy Foundation."

While DGB had the size and measurables, they didn't translate onto the football field. The former second-rounder never seemed to use his size to his advantage and eventually the excuse of his late arrival at training camp grew tired. Head coach Doug Pederson had said previously that he wanted to see DGB have a full offseason with the Eagles but after a rough spring, the Eagles deemed him expendable.

Green-Beckham was cut to make room for Dane Evans, who is the Eagles' fourth quarterback on the 90-man roster.

With rosters still at 90, it wouldn't be very surprising to see Green-Beckham latch on with another team that wants to see if it can finally help him fulfill his potential. It just seems unlikely he ever will.
