NFL preseason: DeMarco Murray's long TD run helps Titans beat Chargers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- DeMarco Murray ran for a 71-yard touchdown and rookie Derrick Henry also scored and the Tennessee Titans' new-look rushing attack delivered an impressive debut Saturday in a 27-10 preseason victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Murray, seeking a new start in Tennessee after struggling with Chip Kelly's offense in Philadelphia last season, had six carries for 93 yards. Henry, the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner from Alabama, had 10 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota played three series and went 5 of 5 for 45 yards, including a 31-yarder to rookie Tajae Sharpe. The Titans had a field goal on Mariota's first series and capped his final drive with Murray's touchdown.

Murray credited receivers Dorial Green-Beckham and Harry Douglas for delivering quality blocks on his big run. Murray easily broke safety Adrian Phillips' attempted tackle on his way to the end zone.

Murray rushed for an NFL-leading 1,845 yards with the Dallas Cowboys in 2014, but flopped last season after the Eagles signed him to a five-year, $40 million contract with $21 million guaranteed. Murray averaged 3.6 yards per carry and was benched late in the season (see full story).

Blue-and-gold day in LA as Rams come home after 22 years
LOS ANGELES -- From the morning when the first tailgaters arrived to the evening and a game-winning drive, the Rams gave Los Angeles fans that old NFL feeling back.

There was no Deacon or Dickerson, and the old familiar blue and yellow were replaced with St. Louis gold, navy and white, but the horns on the helmets were the same, and so was the name: "Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to welcome home to the LA Coliseum, YOUR Los Angeles Rams!" the announcer shouted, bringing a roar the local crowd hasn't been able to let loose since 1994.

Even an opening kickoff return for a touchdown by the Dallas Cowboys' Lucky Whitehead in Saturday's preseason opener for both teams couldn't kill the mood, and many late-arriving LA fans missed that anyway.

The Rams' first touchdown in their new-old town, a 14-yard run by Benny Cunningham, brought another huge roar from the crowd of 89,140, as though it finally made the move official (see full story).

Seahawks top Chiefs 17-16 in preseason opener
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Trevone Boykin engineered a last-minute, 88-yard touchdown drive in four plays, hitting Tanner McEvoy with a 37-yard scoring pass, and Tyvis Pope scored the 2-point conversion with no time remaining, lifting the Seattle Seahawks to a 17-16 victory Saturday over Kansas City.

Boykin, competing with veteran Jake Heaps to be Russell Wilson's backup, replaced Wilson after one possession and had some good and some not-so-good moments before getting going on the final drive.

The clock showed 0:00 when McEvoy out-positioned and out-jumped Malcolm Jackson in the end zone, bringing the Seahawks to within one point in a game they had trailed all day.

Then the Chiefs were flagged for having 12 men on the field, moving the ball to the 1, and Pope went off left guard to score the winner.

Boykin, a star at TCU who was not drafted, was 16 for 26 for 188 yards. Keeping the winning drive alive, he had a scrambling 15-yard run. It was second-and-9 when he lofted the pass to McEvoy, who was waiting in the end zone for the ball (see full story).
