Packers 27, Eagles 13: 10 standout plays

Reviewing 10 standout plays from the Eagles' 27-13 loss to the Packers (see Instant Replay).

1. First quarter: Barbre flattens Matthews
On paper, it's an end around to Bryce Treggs for a 3-yard gain. On video, you'll see Allen Barbre light up linebacker Clay Matthews, who left briefly with a shoulder injury.

2. Second quarter: Find the ball
After beating Leodis McKelvin for a 12-yard touchdown on a slant in the first quarter, Davante Adams burns Nolan Carroll for a 20-yarder here. Carroll was actually in good position to make a play but failed to turn his head and look for the ball until it was too late.

The ball whizzes right by Carroll's hands into Adams'. Perfect pass by Rodgers. Great concentration by Adams. Dicey D by Carroll.

3. Second quarter: Packers punt
The Eagles finally stop Rodgers, who picked them apart the first two possessions and unsuccessfully tried to draw them offside on 4th-and-3. But then Jacob Schum gets off a terrific punt. It travels 43 yards before bouncing — and sitting — at the Eagles' 1.

The play was reviewed because long snapper Brett Goode may have touched the ball while making contact with the goal line, but it difficult to see on the replays, and the ruling on the field was upheld.

4. Second quarter: Big play by a WR
Great back shoulder throw and catch to Jordan Matthews for a  20-yard gain to get the Eagles out of the shadow of their own end zone. Of course, one play later, the offensive line falls apart and Wentz is sacked for a 14-yard loss. Matthews eventually left the game with an ankle injury, and the offense, already without guard Brandon Brooks, suffered.

5. Second quarter: Randall, McNabb, Vick ... Wentz
While being chased by Matthews, Wentz jukes cornerback Damarious Randall and converts a 3rd-and-6 with a 17-yard gain.

Early in the fourth, Wentz on 3rd-and-10 spins away from both Julius Peppers, who yanked his facemask, and Datone Jones and then runs for seven yards. The penalty on Peppers gives the Eagles a first down.

6. Third quarter: Wentz picked
One play after being drilled by Datone Jones, Wentz badly overthrows Zach Ertz and is intercepted by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. On the previous play, Ertz fell and/or was helped to the turf, but no penalty was called.

7. Third quarter: No pressure and another perfect pass
Rodgers, with a nice pocket to throw from, launches a 50-yard strike that sails over McKelvin and into Adams' hands. The Eagles finally lay a hand on Rodgers on third down — he threw the ball away before Jordan Hicks could take him down — and Mason Crosby hits a 33-yard field goal to give the Packers a 17-10 lead.

8. Third quarter: Big field goal
Caleb Sturgis, who'd already hit a 48-yarder, drills a 50-yarder to draw the Eagles back within four and maintain some momentum.

9. Third quarter: Not again, Fletcher
The Eagles stop the Packers on 3rd-and-4, but Fletcher Cox clotheslines Rodgers. Then on 3rd-and-2, Jordy Nelson makes a bobbling reception for seven yards. The Packers finish 10 for 14 on third down.

Then in the fourth quarter, the Eagles commit another costly penalty. Darren Sproles turns a short pass into a 41-yard gain, but it's erased because Dorial Green-Beckham is blocking too far downfield before the reception and is called for pass interference.

The refs didn't help the Eagles on a couple plays either. Bryce Treggs was knocked own in the first quarter but didn't get the call. In the fourth quarter, with Rodgers in his own end zone, Vinny Curry appeared to be dragged down, but a flag wasn't thrown. Holding there would have been a safety.

10. Fourth quarter: Another third-down conversion
On 3rd-and-10, Adams makes a nice move off the line to turn Carroll around, then makes the catch and more nice moves to elude several tackles before finally being brought down at the Eagles' 3 after a 23-yard gain.

Then on first-and-goal, Carroll ... uh ... guess he picked a piece of lint off Adams' jersey ... and is called for holding. Two plays later, fullback Aaron Ripkowsi runs in a 1-yard score to make it 24-13.

10a. Standout decision
Late in the third quarter, Doug Pederson challenges a 2-yard reception by tight end Jared Cook. It's reversed and ruled an incompletion, but the Eagles are out of challenges. Not worth it for two yards.
