Source: Eagles waive injured LB Emmanuel Acho

The Eagles on Thursday waived inside linebacker Emmanuel Acho with an injury designation, a league source told CSNPhilly.com's Reuben Frank. Acho will have thumb surgery.

Acho had been one of seven inside linebackers on the Eagles' roster, along with Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks, DeMeco Ryans, Jordan Hicks, Najee Goode and Brad Jones. (Jones has spent some time at outside linebacker as well.)

Acho, 24, played 14 games for the Eagles last season, registering 31 tackles. He also spent some time with them in 2013.

If a player who hasn't yet accrued four years of pension credit is waived with an injury designation and clears waivers, his rights revert to his former team and he goes on injured reserve. So if Acho clears waivers, he'll go on the Eagles' IR.

Acho is the sixth player the Eagles have released with an injury designation. The others are linebackers Travis Long and Jordan DeWalt-Ondijo, safety Earl Wolff, defensive tackle Wade Keliikipi and defensive end B.J. McBryde.
