Flyers Injury Update: Raffl needs elbow surgery

The Flyers are going into the offseason without a significant number of surgeries.

Here’s the injury report, although general manager Paul Holmgren said it could change in the coming days:

• Forward Michael Raffl needs surgery to remove bone chips in his left elbow.

• Forward Sean Couturier may need surgery to repair an abdominal tear.

• Forward Wayne Simmonds has some knee issues, but he said he could play tomorrow if need be.

• Forward Steve Downie had surgery to improve his hearing and Holmgren believes it affected his balance and coordination on the ice. Holmgren could not say it was related to either of Downie's two concussions this season.

World Championships
Brayden Schenn, Erik Gustafsson, Oliver Lauridsen are going. Claude Giroux? Holmgren said the club would not give him permission to play. Giroux took some hard hits in the Rangers series and the club likely doesn’t want him exposed to any more right now.
