BOX SCORE

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Win one. Lose one.

While that is not a cycle the Flyers can afford to get into as the second half of the NHL season began Sunday night for Dave Hakstol’s club, if you're getting points outside regulation, that's half the battle.

The Flyers dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Blue Jackets, but gained a valuable point in the standings after Brayden Schenn gave them life with 16.5 seconds in regulation to get the game into OT.

Nick Foligno scored the game-winner from the high slot off the rush.

Seems like only yesterday the Jackets were several points behind the Flyers in the Metro Division standings. Now they’re 12 points ahead of them.

The Flyers were 1-1 over the weekend while the Jackets snapped a two-game losing streak. The last time the Jackets lost twice in regulation were their first two games of the season.

This was the first of four meetings against the upstart Blue Jackets, who have stunned the NHL with their success this season, including a franchise-record 16-game winning streak.

Challenges
Andrew MacDonald’s goal early in the first was reversed for goalie interference. Ruling was Michael Raffl steered Ryan Murray into Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Awful call. Raffl was fighting for position, moving laterally across the crease, and never touched Bob – Murray did. The Flyers challenged David Savard’s goal in the second period for goalie interference since John Anderson’s skate touched Mason’s. Incidental contract and the goal was upheld. In both cases, the goals were good.

Notable goals
Would have to be Savard’s goal but Schenn's topped it for drama.

Missed chances
Schenn shot wide and high of an open net from the paint in the second period with a bouncing puck. He looked frustrated at himself for the miss, anyway. He had a backhander go past the post off the rush in the third, as well.

Goalie report
Steve Mason had a fine stop on Boone Jenner’s breakaway, and covered up on the rebound, too in the final eight minutes of the second period.

Power play
The Flyers had one very early in the game with just one shot from Claude Giroux. They were 0 for 1 for the game.

Penalty kill

Excellent kill in the in the first period as the Flyers cleared the zone four times. Flyers were 2 for 2 on the PK Sunday.

Fights
Couple of mini-scrums, two of them involving former Flyer Scott Hartnell. Matt Calvert pounded Raffl in the second period.

Scratches
Defensemen Nick Schultz (healthy) and Mark Streit (left shoulder); forwards Nick Cousins (healthy) and Boyd Gordon (healthy).

Up next
Flyers have a late afternoon practice that will likely be optional on Monday in Buffalo and will face the Sabres on Tuesday night.
