BOX SCORE

NEWARK, N.J. -- They're playing out the string.

The Flyers' final road game of the season wrapped up Tuesday night at the Prudential Center with a 1-0 overtime loss to the Devils.

It was pretty much uninspired hockey from two teams staying home for the playoffs. John Moore won it with a 2-on-1 rush in the first minute of OT.

That leaves two final home games this season and the Flyers will be finished until training camp next fall.

Two Flyers rookies made their NHL debuts in this game -- defenseman Sam Morin and recently-signed center Mike Vecchione.

Morin had an impressive debut, logging 17:47 of ice time and serving as a physical presence with seven hits, even though he battled the puck sometimes.

Vecchione didn't have many touches and had limited ice time on the fourth line.

NHL first
Three Union College products were on the ice in the same game -- Vecchione, Shayne Gostisbehere and New Jersey goalie Keith Kinkaid.

Notable goals
There weren't any to speak of; Gostisbehere had eight shots and couldn't score.

Benched
Coach Dave Hakstol benched Travis Konency after a bad tripping penalty 43 seconds into the opening period. Konecny played 5:35 that period and didn't play in the second. He returned to the game in the third period.

Goalie report
This was Steve Mason's first time in net since his stomach virus last weekend. He looked very sharp in this game and had a chest save on an unexpected drive from Stefan Noesen at the end of the second period. You'd never know Mason came in 0-9 vs. New Jersey for his career.

Power play
It came into the game 4 for 14 over the past four games. At one point last month, it was 3 for 44. The Flyers' second power play was very good with three quality scoring chances -- one each from Wayne Simmonds, Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, but Kinkaid was excellent in goal. The Flyers were 0 for 4.

Penalty kill
Morin got some early taste of it in this game, which he had been doing with the Phantoms. The Devils were 0 for 5 on the man advantage.

Scratches
Forwards Matt Read (broken right arm), Roman Lyubimov (healthy), Michael Raffl (left knee), Jordan Weal (flu) and Nick Cousins (concussion); defensemen Radko Gudas (concussion) and Brandon Manning (back issues); goalie Michal Neuvirth (sinus infection/chest cold).

Up next
The Flyers will practice Thursday and Friday at Skate Zone. They host Columbus on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center.
