BOX SCORE

DETROIT — Playing in the second game of a back-to-back, the Flyers, looking for their ninth straight victory, decided to give goaltender Steve Mason a break.

Anthony Stolarz picked up right where Mason left off and Brayden Schenn's OT goal put the exclamation point on the latest win for the hottest team in the NHL.

In his second career start, Stolarz posted a 28-save shutout and Schenn made the only goal of the evening count as the Flyers topped the Red Wings, 1-0, for their first nine-game win streak since 1995. It's the longest win streak in the NHL this season.

Schenn now has four goals in the last two games with Saturday's hat trick against Dallas and Sunday's game-winner.

Sunday's game marked the Flyers' last regular season game at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings will move into Little Ceasar's Arena in downtown Detroit at the start of next season.

Notable non-goals
Wings forward Dylan Larkin appeared to put a rebound past Stolarz at 2:41 of the third period, but the net had come off it moorings and it was waved off. Instead, Radko Gudas received a questionable delay of game penalty for pushing the net off purposely. The Flyers wound up killing the penalty, though, and the game remained scoreless.

Notable goals
Schenn's winner was beauty as he took a slick pass from rookie defenseman Ivan Provorov and dangled around Wings goalie Jimmy Howard before tucking the puck into the net on the backhand.

Goalie report
Although his teammates were blocking plenty of shots in front of him, Stolarz did have some work, especially on the penalty kill. At 7:07 of the third, Andreas Athanasiou came in with speed on a partial breakaway but Stolarz was there. His performance Sunday marked the Flyers' first shutout of the season.

Jimmy Howard, making his first start for the Red Wings since suffering a groin injury Nov. 25, was tested quite a bit and held up to Philadelphia’s attack. In the 3-on-3 overtime, Travis Konecny passed to Pierre-Edouard Bellemare in the right circle on a 2 on 1, but Howard answered with a big save. Howard was excellent with 34 saves on the evening.

Power play
One day after scoring three power play goals, the Flyers were unable to score on their four opportunities Sunday. Schenn, who had all three of those power play goals against the Stars on Saturday afternoon, had a good chance on the first power play at 2:48 of the first period but Howard made the save.

Penalty kill
The Flyers equaled the Wings on the penalty kill, stopping all five Detroit man advantages.

Fight night at the Joe
Xavier Ouellet took offense to Michael Raffl’s hit on Steve Ott and fought him at 8:03 of the third period. Ouellet took the decision, but also got an instigating penalty and a 10-minute misconduct.

Injuries
Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere missed the game with a bone bruise on his hand that he suffered Saturday. General manager Ron Hextall said Gostisbehere is day to day (see story). Michael Del Zotto took his spot in the lineup.

Other scratches
Defenseman Nick Schultz and forward Boyd Gordon were healthy scratches.

Up next
The Flyers get a well-deserved day off and then play at the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night in Denver.
