BOX SCORE

Twice is nice.

So says Wayne Simmonds, who scored two goals once again as the Flyers defeated the Florida Panthers, 3-2, in OT Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Jakub Voracek scored the winner with 8.6 seconds left in overtime.

The victory extended the Flyers’ winning streak to six games, their longest since they won seven seven in a row Dec. 2-15, 2011.

Simmonds tallied twice on Sunday at Nashville and now has seven points during the Flyers’ winning streak. Goalie Steve Mason tied his personal-best winning streak at five starts.

Mason was very strong again and had one of his best saves of the season in the third period on Jussi Jokinen to protect a one-goal lead (see video). Jokinen eventually tied it anyway at 2-2 with 4:48 left in regulation.

The Panthers were on the back end of a back-to-back. This was the sixth and final game of a long road trip for them and they dominated the third period.

Notable assists
Andrew MacDonald recorded his 100th on Simmonds’ first goal.

Milestone
Jaromir Jagr played in his 1,656th NHL game. He is fourth all-time now, having passed Mark Recchi on Dec. 1 against Detroit. He expressed his share of frustration dealing with Flyers rookie defenseman Ivan Provorov and took a couple needless hooking penalties.

Goalie report
Mason likes to see a lot of rubber early and he did on Tuesday as the Panthers outshot the Flyers, 14-3, at one point in the opening period. He finished with 42 saves.

James Reimer had some pretty good saves himself. In the second period, he had a glove stab on Michael Raffl’s tip that was headed under the crossbar.

Power play
Voracek nailed the right post in the second period on an open shot and cross feed from Simmonds. Simmonds’ tip of Claude Giroux’s shot from the high slot broke a 1-1 tie in the second period. He now has eight power-play goals to lead the NHL. His 14 power-play points also lead the NHL.

Penalty kill
The Flyers were not overworked and finished 2 for 2.

Ironman
Though he wasn’t feeling well, Florida’s Keith Yandle played his 578th consecutive game. That’s 10th all-time in the NHL.

Scratches
Defenseman Nick Schultz (healthy) and Radko Gudas (ill), forwards Boyd Gordon (back spasms), Sean Couturier (left knee) and Matt Read (oblique pull) and goalie Michal Neuvirth (left knee). The Flyers do not have an extra forward on the roster because of injuries.

Up next
The Flyers practice at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and host the Edmonton Oilers at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.
