BOX SCORE

NEW YORK — The New York Mets beat the Phillies, 10-5, on Friday night to maintain their share of the lead in the National League wild-card race.

The Phils have lost two straight to the Mets, including a wild affair Thursday night in which they blew two-run leads in the ninth and 11th innings.

The Phillies’ loss Friday night was more conventional, though they did lead 3-1 at one point. The Mets stormed back with six runs in the fifth to beat Jeremy Hellickson.

The Mets had four extra-base hits and were 5 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

The Phillies are 10-23 against the Mets the last two seasons.

The Phillies are 69-85 on the season with eight games to play.

Starting pitching report
Hellickson lasted just 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs. Five of those runs came in the fifth inning when the Mets erased a 3-1 deficit. Hellickson walked two batters in that inning and both scored. The six runs were the most he had allowed in a start since June 10. He is 12-10 with a 3.78 ERA in 31 starts.

Steven Matz was unable to make the start because of continued shoulder soreness. The Mets used rookie right-hander Gabriel Ynoa for the start and he went just two innings and gave up five hits and two runs.

Bullpen report
Frank Herrmann picked up Hellickson with two men on base and the Phils down, 4-3, in the fifth. He allowed a three-run homer to Michael Conforto as the Mets went ahead, 7-3.

Mets right-hander Hansel Robles got one of the game’s biggest outs when he came on to face pinch-hitter Tommy Joseph with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh. Robles got Joseph to bounce into a double play to preserve a two-run lead.

At the plate
Maikel Franco homered for the second straight night, giving him a team-high 24 on the season. Darin Ruf, who hadn’t had an at-bat in 10 days, came off the bench and swatted a two-run homer in the sixth. It traveled 450 feet to left-center.

Those were the Phillies’ only two extra-base hits. They had eight singles, but twice left the bases loaded and stranded 10 in all.

Conforto’s three-run homer was the big hit for the Mets. Curtis Granderson and Kelly Johnson also drove in runs for the Mets in that inning.

The Mets have hit 29 homers in 14 games against the Phillies this season.

In the field
The Mets pushed their lead to three runs in the bottom of the seventh when Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp threw errantly to third base trying to gun down a runner on a bunt play.

Health check
Right-hander Phil Klein has yet to appear in a game since coming up from Triple A when rosters expanded earlier this month. Manager Pete Mackanin said Klein had been experiencing elbow soreness.

Up next
The Mets made another change to their rotation, scratching fireballer Noah Syndergaard from Saturday night’s scheduled start. He has strep throat. The Mets will fill the start with their bullpen, led by lefty reliever Sean Gilmartin (0-0, 4.76) at the outset. Alec Asher (1-0, 2.16) will start for the Phillies.
