BOX SCORE

BOSTON — The Phillies pushed the Boston Red Sox to the limit again on Tuesday night but once again suffered a walk-off loss.

Boston beat the Phillies, 4-3, on a hit by Andrew Benintendi with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning. Luis Garcia took the loss. He gave up two hits and a walk in the 12th.

The Red Sox won Monday night's game, 6-5, in 11 innings.

The Phillies got a terrific start from rookie Ben Lively in this one, but he came away with a no-decision.

The Phils had the potential go-ahead run cut down at the plate (on a throw by Benintendi) in the top of the eighth. They left the bases loaded in that inning and the second inning. They had runners at first and third with one out in the 10th and came away with nothing. They had runners at the corners with two outs in the 11th and got nothing.

The loss was the Phils' seventh in a row, dropping them to 21-42, worst in the majors. They are 9-28 on the road.

Starting pitching report
Lively survived six extra-base hits on his way to putting up seven innings of three-run ball. He was aided by a pair of double plays.

A Phillies starting pitcher has gone more than six innings just 13 times this season and Lively has done it three times — in each of his three big-league starts. He has allowed just seven runs over his first 21 innings in the majors.

Boston lefty David Price gave up four hits and three runs over six innings. One of the hits was a two-run homer by Aaron Altherr.

Bullpen report
Edubray Ramos did a good job with two scoreless innings.

Jeanmar Gomez allowed the first two runners to reach base in the bottom of the 11th and proceeded to get three outs.

Boston's Blaine Boyer got a big out when he fanned Freddy Galvis on a high fastball with the bases loaded to end the top of the eighth and keep the score knotted at 3-3. Boyer allowed two singles and a double and walked a batter intentionally in the frame. He was helped by his defense as leftfielder Benintendi threw out Howie Kendrick, the potential tie-breaking run, trying to score from first base on a double off the top of the Green Monster by Maikel Franco. With his offense struggling, Phils manager Pete Mackanin said the team needed to take chances. Third base coach Juan Samuel took one but it did not pay off.

Heath Hembree got two outs with runners on first and third in the top of the 10th.

At the plate
Altherr got the Phils on the board with a game-tying, two-run homer in the top of the third. The Phils scored the tying run again in the sixth when Tommy Joseph doubled, moved to third on a single by Franco and scored when Michael Saunders was able to beat out a potential double-play ball.

Franco singled three times, doubled and walked.

The Red Sox scored a run in each of the first three innings against Lively. Mitch Moreland clubbed a 449-foot homer to highlight the Red Sox's attack.

Health check
Results of Cesar Hernandez's MRI are in. He will be out for six weeks (see story).

Transaction
The Phillies traded reliever Joely Rodriguez to the Texas Rangers for a player to be named or cash (see story). He was designated for assignment last week.
