The Yankees are expected to have their leader back for Opening Day.
GM Brian Cashman said Derek Jeter will be ready for New York's first game of 2013.
"Its all in the doctors hands right now," Cashman said, per ESPNNewYork.com (via HardballTalk). "But hell be ready on Opening Day."
The 38-year-old Jeter is recovering from a broken ankle he suffered in Game 1 of last year's ALCS. The longtime Yankee shortstop had surgery on Oct. 20, and according to Cashman, Jeter is out of his walking boot and currently rehabbing.
Mets, Yankees vying for Hairston
It seems that both the New York Yankees and New York Mets are the finalists for free-agent outfielder Scott Hairston.
"According to Casey Close, Hairston's agent, talks are continuing with both teams and Hairston expects to make a decision about where he will play in 2013 in 'a matter of days,'" reports Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com (via HardballTalk).
Hairston hit a career-high 20 home runs last season in 134 games with the Mets.

Pavano, Mets in discussions
Carl Pavano, 36, made only 11 starts last season and he's still trying to find a job for 2013.
According to Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger (via HardballTalk), Pavano's agent said that the 36-year-old starter and the Mets are in talks.
McCullough tweeted:
"Mets Fifth Starter Stuff: Carl Pavano's agent says discussions with the Mets are still 'very preliminary,' but there's mutual interest."
