PHOENIX -- The Phillies poor start to the 2012 season continued Monday night in a 9-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Phils entered the ninth inning trailing, 9-0, before rallying for five runs. Without that burst, they were headed for their worst loss of the season. It was a loss, nonetheless, an ugly one, and the Phils are now 7-10 on the season.

Phillies pitching allowed a season-high 16 hits.

The Phillies have lost three in a row and are 3-5 on the road trip with two more games to play.

Starting pitching report
Kyle Kendrick got the spot start in place of the injured Cliff Lee. He was pounded for 11 hits and seven runs while failing to make it out of the fourth inning.

In three career starts in Arizona, Kendrick is 0-1 and has allowed 15 runs in 14 innings (9.64). The Diamondbacks have hit .433 (29 for 67) in those games.

Wade Miley got the spot start in place of injured Daniel Hudson and the lefty dominated the Phillies. He allowed just two hits over six shutout innings. He walked one and struck out seven.

At the plate
The Phillies had just three hits through seven innings. They came alive in the ninth. Shane Victorino belted a three-run homer in the inning. Carlos Ruiz had a solo homer.

Justin Upton and Jason Kubel homered for Arizona.
