SAN DIEGOVance Worley racked up a career-high 11 strikeouts in leading the Phillies to a 2-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.The Phillies have won 12 straight games at Petco Park, dating to 2008. They are 6-7 on the season. At 3-11, San Diego has the worst record in the majors.Starting pitching reportWith his teammates scoring just two runs, Worley had to be on top of his gameand he was, holding the Padres to just four hits over seven innings. Worley got six outs with a runner on third base, including his biggest one of the game, a strikeout of pinch-hitter Mark Kotsay with runners on the corners and two outs in the seventh. He got Kotsay looking at a full-count breaking ball.Rookie righthander Joe Wieland pitched well in his second big-league start. He nicely managed a first-inning jam in which he gave up a run but got the final two outs with the bases loaded. Wieland gave up just two more hits over the balance of his six innings. He walked one and struck out seven.Bullpen reportChad Qualls delivered his fifth scoreless inning in as many appearances and Jonathan Papelbon recorded his fourth save in as many tries.At the plateThe Phils had another lackluster night with the batsthey were shut out in 11 innings Wednesdaybut they did manage to push across a run in the first inning on a walk, a single, an error and a sacrifice fly by Jimmy Rollins. They added an unearned run on a passed ball in the ninth.For the night, the Phils had six hits, just one for extra bases.In the fieldCatcher Carlos Ruiz and shortstop Rollins executed a pair of perfect throws in nailing Will Venable at the plate on an attempted double steal in the sixth. The runners were off on a full-count breaking ball. Volquez has won both his career starts against the Phillies and allowed just one earned run in 12 13 innings.
