The Sixers’ coaching search continues to take a long and winding road.

Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool formally interviewed for the Sixers’ head coaching position on Monday, according to league sources.

The 40-year-old’s resume includes one year playing in the NBA for the Washington Wizards, stops in the CBA and ABA and then a global journey where he played in Italy, China and Russia. Vanterpool’s career lasted 11 years, ending in 2007.

After his playing days, Vanterpool moved right into coaching, serving as an assistant coach with CSKA Moscow. He stayed in that role for five years before joining the Blazers last summer as an assistant to Terry Stotts.

Vanterpool is known around the league to have a tremendous work ethic and is well versed in the intricacies of coaching.

The Sixers have been without a head coach since Doug Collins stepped down on April 18. They remain the only NBA team that does not have a coach.
