BOX SCORE

BOSTON -- Cliff Lee played the role of stopper again in leading the Phillies to a 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.

Lee is 5-1 with a 2.11 ERA in eight starts following a loss this season.

The Phillies are 25-27. They have scored three or fewer runs in 30 of 52 games.

The Phils finished their eight-game road trip at 4-4.

Starting pitching report
Lee allowed just four singles and one run over eight walk-free innings. He threw just 95 pitches, 69 of which were strikes. Lee struck out eight. For the season, the lefty is 6-2 with a 2.34 ERA. He had six wins all of last season.

Boston’s Ryan Dempster allowed just two runs over seven innings. He is 2-6.

Bullpen report
Phils manager Charlie Manuel often lets his starters attempt to finish games when they are under 100 pitches, but this time he went to Jonathan Papelbon, who racked up his 10th save of the season and first against his former team. Papelbon entered the game to a sizable amount of boos. He retired Jonny Gomes, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz to end the game. Paplebon is 10 for 10 in save chances this season.

At the plate
Michael Young snapped an 0-for-22 slump (the longest hitless streak of his career) when he hit Dempster’s seventh pitch of the game over the Green Monster to give the Phils a 1-0 lead in the first inning. It was Young’s second homer of the season and first since April 9.

The Phils broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh. John Mayberry Jr. led off the inning with a single up the middle, moved to second on a bunt by Freddy Galvis and scored on a single up the middle by Erik Kratz.

An inning earlier, the Phils had two men on base with one out, but Delmon Young and Domonic Brown were both retired swinging at the first pitch.

Brown atoned in the top of the ninth when he lined a solo homer in the Red Sox' bullpen to give the Phils a 3-1 lead. It was Brown’s team-high 11th homer and his 10th RBI on the eight-game road trip.

In the field
Phillies centerfielder Ben Revere raced to the deepest part of the ballpark to haul in David Ortiz’ mammoth drive to center in the fourth. The ball traveled about 410 feet and would have been a home run in most other parks. Revere also made a great catch on Ortiz in the fourth inning Monday night.

An honor
Brown was named NL player of the week (see story).

Minor matters
Carlos Zambrano pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Single A Clearwater on Tuesday night. He allowed three hits, two walks and struck out two. Zambrano will likely get a few more minor-league starts before a decision is made on bringing him to Philadelphia.

Up next
The Phillies and Red Sox continue their home-and-home series in Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Kyle Kendrick (4-3, 3.29) looks to rebound from two poor starts against John Lackey (3-4, 2.72).
