After a three-hit night on Thursday, Ryan Howard is sitting against Cardinals lefty Jaime Garcia with a sore groin. Howard is available to pinch hit. Kevin Frandsen, who hit .400 with a .980 OPS last season vs. lefties, gets his first start of the season at first base. He’ll bat sixth.

Injury aside, it makes sense to get Howard a night of rest, even if this team is searching desperately for some power. He’s 2 for 12 with six strikeouts against Garcia, and 1 for 15 with nine Ks this season against lefties.

Michael Young moves up one to replace Howard in the cleanup spot, with John Mayberry filling in at five. Mayberry is 4 for 9 with two doubles against Garcia. All other active Phillies are 4 for 40.

Jimmy Rollins leads off and Ben Revere bats seventh for a second straight night, and Humberto Quintero is behind the plate to catch Roy Halladay’s third consecutive start.

It could be yet another tough night for the Phillies' offense, which has gone ice cold in recent days and is hitting just .131 against left-handers through 16 games.

Quick update on Carlos Ruiz. The Phils' catcher was hit by a pitch on his left wrist Friday in an extended spring training game. X-rays were negative.
