Harris: Has Sixers' Holiday hit his ceiling?

Share

I was wrong. I'm not too proud to admit it. I really believed this would be the year Jrue Holiday would step up and take over as "the guy" for the Sixers.

It hasn't happened.

In fact, since starting out the season 20-9, the Sixers have proven they don't have "the guy." That was OK when everyone was taking turns. But on a day when Carmelo Anthony put his Knicks on his back sans Amar'e Stoudamire and Jeremy Lin in a win over the Bulls, I realized that Holiday isn't answering the bell. And if Doug Collins is considering changing the starting lineup (again), sending Holiday to the bench may be for the best.

Some basketball experts think he has elite potential. But former Sixer and CSN analyst Marc Jackson doesn't believe it, and after watching him for nearly three full seasons I guess I just don't see him being a guy that can give you 20 and 10 assists on a regular basis.

That's what I think of when I think of an elite point guard. Am I wrong for having those expectations? Maybe. But at least when I'm wrong I'm not afraid to admit it. Let's hope the basketball experts who had the ceiling so high for Holiday can admit that he may have already bumped his head.
