The 76ers on Thursday signed guard Shelvin Mack to a 10-day contract. The signing coincides with the expiration of Maalik Wayns' 10-day contract.
Mack -- the former Butler standout who led the Bulldogs to two NCAA national championship games -- played 64 games for the Washington Wizards last year as a rookie, but has appeared in just seven games this season, splitting time between the NBA and the D-League.
He was waived by the Wizards for the second time this season on Jan. 7.
In his seven appearances this season, Mack, who started twice, averaged 5.3 points and 3.3 assists in 20 minutes.
He has greater size and more traditionally fits the backup point guard role than the now-departed Wayns, who appeared in 21 games for the Sixers as an undrafted rookie and put up 2.7 points and one assist in just less than eight minutes per game.
