FIFA14 and Union vs. Toronto FC: Surprisingly realistic

Conor Casey rips a shot (he missed).

Because I have no idea what to expect from the Union these days, and because Toronto FC is so horrible and nondescript that I know very little about them, I decided to see how Saturday's game at PPL Park (7:30 p.m., Comcast Network) would go in a FIFA 14 simulation.

As it turns out -- to no one's surprise -- the newest version of the popular game is incredibly realistic (my real prediction at bottom).

The game (which I just simulated, did not play) was incredibly boring and sloppy, and ended in a 0-0 draw.

Three plays were worthy of highlights.

A Conor Casey miss that sent virtual PPL Park into a frenzy:

Apparently EA Sports even made MLS refereeing realistic on this don't-call-it-a-handball:

And finally, a play that perfectly describes the Union's home form of late:

PREDICTION SURE TO BE WRONG

How will the game actually go? As boring and tame as the Union have been at home in the last three months, I don't think that will be the case on Saturday.

Toronto is horrible. But they have absolutely nothing to lose. So They'll have a few young guys coming in hoping to impress a coach or two, and will be flying high after a win over DC United's "E" Team last weekend.

(Speaking of that game, if you ever wanted to see a sports columnist go OFF on an entire franchise, read this.)

The Union MUST get three points. Anything less and they can kiss their playoff hopes goodbye. Red-hot Columbus, New England and Chicago are right on the Union's heels, and Philadelphia ends the season AT Montreal and home to a Sporting Kansas City team seeking revenge. If the Union can get three points here and three points next weekend in DC, any points at all in the final two games might be enough. Might.

I think the Union get the result they need on Saturday, but in typical nervy fashion. It won't be pretty.

Prediction: Union 2, Toronto FC 1.

Eagles sign former third-round guard Dallas Thomas

Eagles sign former third-round guard Dallas Thomas

The Eagles have signed former Dolphins offensive guard Dallas Thomas to a reserve/futures contract.

Thomas, 27, was drafted by the Dolphins in the third round (No. 77) out of Tennessee in 2013 and was with them until this past season.

In his four-year career, Thomas has played in 37 games with 26 starts. He started nine games in 2014 and started all 16 games at left guard in 2015.

Thomas (6-5, 315 pound) and 2014 third-rounder Billy Turner were both released in October after a poor showing agains the Titans. While Thomas was the team's starter at left guard in 2015, rookie Laremy Tunsil took over that position with the Dolphins in 2016.

In 2015, when Thomas started all 16 games at left guard, he was ranked as the worst guard in football by ProFootballFocus. He gave up 10 sacks, 10 QB hits and 36 QB hurries.

Mike Trout wins Eagles-Cowboys bet forcing friend to look ridiculous

Mike Trout wins Eagles-Cowboys bet forcing friend to look ridiculous

Mike Trout sure does win a lot when the Eagless beat the Cowboys.

Not only did the Los Angeles Angels outfielder get a touchdown ball from Carson Wentz during the Eagles win over the Cowboys to cap off the season, but he also won a bet on the game with a friend.

Turns out, Trout had some sort of bet with DJ Cottrell, whose Twitter profile says he is from Trout's hometown of Millville, NJ. Cottrell is likely a Cowboys fan and came up on the losing end.

"The fact I have to wear an entire Eagles uniform to the gym for a week is going to be the death of me," he Tweeted on Tuesday.

Then he posted a photo of himself in the ridiculous football uniform while posing alongside Trout.

It's good to be Mike Trout. Not so much a Dallas Cowboys fan these days.
