After Peter Nowak's ouster from his role as head coach of the MLS All-Star Game's host club, the league had to name a new coach for its All-Stars. We didn't have our hopes set on John Hackworth getting the honors so soon after taking the reins of his own team, and ordinarily, a rival coach getting the gig might be less than ideal.
But DC United's Ben Olsen, who was named coach of the MLS's All-Star side on Thursday, hails from near Harrisburg and played locally with FC Delco.

Olsen, 35, sports an impressive MLS resume as a player, retired in 2009 and joined DC's coaching staff the following January. He became head coach in August 2010, and his club is currently in first place in the East. For one match, Olsen gets to be a host at PPL Park rather than a rival. Sebastian Salazar quoted Olsen on Philly

“My brother lives in Philadelphia, my sister lives right outside and I spent a great deal of my soccer career as a youth playing in Philadelphia,” Olsen said last week of the city where he’ll coach his first All-Star Game. “I love the city and I love the soccer community there, so it’s always nice to go back.”
The MLS All-Stars will face Champions League… uh… champions… Chelsea on July 25th at PPL Park. Hackworth will be among the assistant coaches.
