A strong second-half defensive effort and a sharp performance from quarterback Dan Raudabaugh led the Soul to a convincing 73-55 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm on Saturday night.

“We came out in the second half and played like the team we are capable of being,” Soul head coach Clint Dolezel said. “Two big defensive stops to start the third quarter and Dan (Raudabaugh) was efficient with the football."

Raudabaugh guided the Soul offense by connecting on 20-of-23 passes for 297 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.

Tiger Jones led Soul receivers with eight receptions for 122 yards and two scores, while Ryan McDaniel added seven receptions for 108 and three TDs.

On the defensive side of the ball, Bryan Robinson (3.0 total tackles, two sacks) and Calvin Fance (5.0 total tackles, one sack) were all over Storm quarterback Adrain McPherson, who was sacked four times.

However, it wasn't just Raudabaugh and the defense that played a big factor in the Soul's win. Derrick Ross spearheaded the ground game, finishing with 15 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Ross also had a receiving TD.

"When you do those things and balance it with Derrick (Ross) in our rushing game, we will win a lot of games with the kind of performance," Dolezel said of his team's play against the Storm.

The Soul (5-4) took the opening drive on three plays and capped it with a six-yard rushing score from Ross for a 7-0 lead to start the game.

Ross would score twice more in the first half, but three touchdowns by Tampa's Joe Hills helped the Storm (6-4) take a 34-31 lead into the half.

After the defense forced a turnover on downs, the Soul got a three-yard touchdown from Ross to start the third. After yet another defensive stand, Raudabaugh tossed a 14-yard TD pass to Andrae Thurman with 4:48 left in the third.

The Storm attempted and recovered an onsides kick to start the fourth quarter. The Soul responded with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh to McDaniel and didn't look back from there, adding two more scores from McDaniel and Jones to seal the victory.
