Apparently Andre Iguodala and company want nothing to do with Greg Oden. It took dealing the league’s leading scorer and removing any delusions that the Sixers were trying to contend rather than rebuild to happen, but AI9 looks like he’s finally taking his game to the level we’ve expected for the last two years.
Iguodala dropped a game-high 32 points in a 98-95 win against the Blazers last night, which ESPN.com reports is the second time he’s surpassed his career high in the last week. Also impressive in the win was Andre Miller, who put up 25 points and seven boards.
So, after losing 11 in a row and 18 of 20 before the deal that sent Allen Iverson to Denver, the Sixers are actually .500 in the six games since the trade, with three of their eight wins on the season coming in that time.
With Iguodala channeling his inner Jeff Garcia, could the Sixers join the Eagles in defying expectations and make a run at the playoffs? It’s obviously too early to tell, but the NBA’s Eastern Conference is even more pathetic than the NFC, so anything’s possible.
