La Salle to Explore Not Having a Football Team Again

Share

Citing difficulty in finding suitable opponents in the ever-weakening MAAC, La Salle has dissolved its football team again. The Explorers took a 56-year break before, bringing the program back in 1997. The school insists the decision has nothing to do with the team's performance, but going 0-10 doesn't exactly help. La Salle is the sixth MAAC team to drop its football program in the last 8 years, and others have moved to other conferences. When the players were called into the meeting with the AD, they were hoping it was to inform them the team was moving, not that their careers at La Salle were over.

Fun facts:

The
Explorers compiled a record of 35-76 in the 10 years since the program
returned. The team had back-to-back winning seasons of 7-4 and 5-4 in
2000 and 2001 under head coach Bill Manlove.
