Live 8 coming back to Philly

UPDATED: Philly.com has a short AP wire article which lists some of the artists performing: Will Smith, DMB, Stevie Wonder, & Bon Jovi among others.  I have a feeling many more artists will be announced; I'm thinking maybe Springsteen and Dylan.

Fox news has a report on the return of Live Aid to Philadelphia, this time dubbed "Live 8" which is in reference to the Global summit.  News on the line up is due out Tuesday and I will update this space when I hear it.

This is exciting to me after hearing countless tales from my father who was at the original Live Aid.. "Phil Collins played at Wembley and then flew across the pond to play at JFK in Philly!"  I must have heard that one a hundred times.  I actually got him the Live Aid DVD of the original for Christmas but it seems to lack some of the realness his old VHS tapes had including the horrendous outfits of the MTV VJs.  The DVD also does not include the remaining members of Led Zeppelin doing Stairway to Heaven, apparently they thought it was too bad for the DVD.

PHILADELPHIA  — Two decades after the original Live Aid (search), when rock stars raised money for Ethiopian famine relief, singer-activist Bob Geldof (search) is planning another star-studded, humanitarian event.

Live 8 (search) is set for Saturday, July 2, on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, a city spokeswoman said. The event will coincide with a second show in London, publicist Laura Perez told The Philadelphia Inquirer in Sunday's editions.

Details, including the lineup and other possible venues, remain secret. They are expected to be unveiled Tuesday morning at joint press conferences in Philadelphia and London, according to Perez.

The name "Live 8" is a nod to the G-8 summit, a meeting of the world's
leading powers, set to start days later in Scotland. Geldof has pressed
for the world's wealthiest countries to do more to fight famine and
poverty in Africa.
