The search to replace Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews in the Philadelphia Phillies broadcast booth has reached its conclusion.
CSNPhilly.com has confirmed reports that Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs, both members of the 2008 World F’n Champions, will join play-by-play man Tom McCarthy as color commentators in the television booth this year.
John Finger writes the pair will broadcast over 100 games in 2014, including more than 30 together. Moyer and Stairs had been rumored as the leading contenders for the openings over the past few weeks.
Moyer and Stairs bring a combined 44 Major League seasons worth of experience to the booth, so there should be no shortage of baseball knowledge to go around the broadcast.
Both retired players have a healthy following among Philly fans, so the news will likely be greeted as positive. We’ll reserve judgment though until we’ve had a few months to take in how the new dynamic works.
