Sayonara, Tadahito

Jim Salisbury reports that the Phillies did ask Tadahito Iguchi (okay, his translator) about switching to 3B and signing with the Phillies for 2008 and beyond, but that Iguchi wants to remain a second basemen. Iguchi was a great pickup by Pat Gillick and was amazing filling in for Chase Utley, and thereafter as a pinch-hitter. With the gaping hole at the hot corner, it seems the Phillies were hoping for the same thing most fans wanted to see, Iguchi to become a convert and keep his bat in the Phils' lineup.

There will be no shortage of attention for Iguchi in the free agent market, with MLB Trade Rumors listing the Twins, Mariners, Rockies, and... the Mets... as potential suitors. I liked Iguchi when he played for the White Sox, and loved him for his brief time here, so it would be a nightmare to see him in the Mets stupid lineup. They really would benefit from an upgrade at 2B too. Damn it.
