Thanksgiving Football (You Know, For Kids)

Share

Ahhh, the Glory Days.  From the grade school rivalries to the high school battles, youth football on Thanksgiving is about as American as you can get.  I fondly remember the days when my Sacred Heart (Manoa) Crusaders used to beat up on the Annunciation Raiders in Havertown.  The Turkey Bowl was our Super Bowl.  Domination was our glory.  Once the grade school days passed, there were new rivalries to consider.  My Malvern Prep Friars used to beat up on Carroll for years.  Then Carroll was like, "We suck. No more football against those guys," and that ended.  But that opened up the doors for a new potential rivalry with some staying power.

From the Inqy:

St. Joseph's Prep (9-2, No. 2 in The Inquirer's rankings) vs. Malvern Prep (9-0, No. 4) at Villanova, 10:30 a.m. This
could be the start of a fantastic rivalry. Gil vs. Gamp. Catholic
League juggernaut vs. Inter-Ac League powerhouse. Special teams (see
placekicker Tim Edger) are the difference in the inaugural clash.

The game takes place at Villanova and could be a nice appetizer for local football fans.  Be sure to throw on WMMR to catch Pierre's annual spinning of Alice's Restaurant.

Football on Thanksgiving, from 9 year olds and up.  It's a beautiful thing.
