US Men's National Team Prepping for Philly Show This Saturday

Share

It's already been a big year for the beautiful game in Philadelphia, and the Union doesn't even open play until 2010. The momentum behind the MLS club is growing, and so too is the hype for the US Men's National Team after their great showing in the 2009 Confederations Cup. The USMNT is now in Philly prepping for their Gold Cup game at the Linc this Saturday as part of a soccer doubleheader that The700Level will be attending.

The team is using the Eagles practice facilities, where they took a knee for some orange wedges with Joe Banner and even traded tips with David Akers, who showed them how to kick field goals, then opened fire on Santino Quaranta.

We already have an Aussie Rules punter... maybe a placekicker from the soccer ranks is next? Worked in Necessary Roughness! Akers also jumped in net to block some shots, where he apparently wasn't bad. Hopefully they took it easy on him, but it doesn't look like he returned the favor on Quaranta.
There are still tickets available if you want to come down to the games on Saturday. Our friends at the Sons of Ben tell us that a second USA supporters section has opened, so enter code "sob2010" when you go to the event page. I just tried it and pulled up section 130, 5th row, for about $30. Tough to beat that. SoB is hosting a tailgate outside, but word on the street is that they've already sold out all 450 spots they offered.
Philly is ready. If you haven't seen a soccer match before, this is a rare opportunity to see some of the best players in the world repping our country on a big stage.
Note: USA supporters are asked to wear red to the game. (And get absolutely insane out there.)
