Number you -- Scott Rolen. It's hopeless. Role. Could -- in this town Scott Rolen really for the wounded now Scott Rolen is probably to guide to test most of his. -- the sport because he came here as a really nice kid. No I've never seen a guy came from nice kid. -- -- In one career heat. Came up side 1996. Scott was going to be the golden boy franchise. He won the rookie of the year I'll never forget the days. You lavished him with a big contract. Pre arbitration years it was twelve million dollars. It was going to be this great building block is a guy who should have been a lot. He's a guy who you play hard got -- he's great defensively. He hustled all the time. He should've been a huge huge popular figure well. It as much as we. Hated Mike Schmidt because he was the -- -- guy at third base. Scott -- was a lot like Mike Schmidt he didn't play the game with the kind of fire and passion we realize Mike Schmidt was a great player. We never got a chance to see Scott Rolen is he pretty much played himself out of this found. -- has that attitude. Don't just never seemed like he enjoyed playing baseball. It was just a sour. Sour guy. And you know and then that they've been at the end of it just got so bad start -- bad just. Down and downward spiral. -- -- -- -- he DP came here pretending to be the reader of hardcover books and nobody of us -- the -- of the guy was it from and and the fans with before anybody else. He had a falling out the organization had a falling out manager -- thought Larry was very popular. And I think that hurt Scott in the public's. He became a guy. Who wanted to move Vonnie turner done a very big contract ninety million dollar offer. Largely because he didn't think the Phillies were committed to putting the winner. On the field. He didn't fit in. In a town like Philadelphia where his thirty I think he wanted to be stroked a little bit I think he was told Scott and doing a good job. You're you're you're you're -- -- -- with me it's a -- world Philadelphia you're not ready for. And I don't know that he was he was overly sensitive. You can't be that. Q any Jimmy Rollins for all his fault felt a play back and forth with the media -- think back and forth with the fans you could -- pretty much wherever you want about Jimmy Rollins is gonna let it roll off his back. Scott Rolen didn't let anything roll off his back I didn't like to talk to the media. Introverted he waited in the players -- until most of the media cleared. And the conversation I had with a one Thomas. No I don't like to talk the me. I just played baseball. I think they hadn't talked to the media might get some endorsements and his comment was. I don't wanna be Derek Jeter and holed up there for. Never forget that. It's tough character gets enough and philadelphians are kind of like to when -- put our arms around people. And it's a New Year's super private guy you know let people and he said if you wanna get to know me sorry about your life. Sorry about your luck winning if you wanted to get involved in -- you're talking about anything off the field. You know patients with anybody wanting to get inside his -- it's ironic because I at least -- -- the same way but Rolen didn't play for a winner. So they're therefore it's always like -- just the bad guy. Scott Rolen there's so many athletes who leave town. But come back get -- the first time and then after that kind of dies out Scott Rolen still to this day. Gets booed and no reason why Scott Rolen said I don't wanna be here anymore and nothing hurts Philly fans wore on guys you know wanna be here. He made a mistake saying -- thought if he wasn't comfortable here we always knew he wasn't comfortable and speak once Scott Rolen was traded to Saint Louis. He called Saint Louis baseball he got traded baseball have and is it. Philadelphia wasn't Scott Rolen us. Have a year -- -- today parade. They traded on the same -- baseball. Have been. Tony La Russa told him they go there old and you know a few years down the row would -- no problem with the -- I wondered -- how. -- got into baseball have made. Scott never really explain just. There didn't get it it had sort of make the comment about more than baseball evidence thing Lewis. Think that's got 2008 World Series champions right here in Philadelphia you could have been applauded. He said he went to baseball heaven and Saint Louis and then turned -- into his own personal hell and those two words. Made Scott Rolen ability Philadelphia. Not only for ever but far beyond what he deserved what Scott Rolen was here not only was he the best player. He was the most professional player and he was everybody's favorite player. People forget that what they remember is.

  3. John Gonzalez and Marshall Harris recap the Phillies' win

    Sun, 19 May 2013

Phillies get to walk off way to cap off a winning homestand when the series against the reds died when you look at. How well this team played this week you know there were some ups and downs. He has been a big win and Charlie mine it's an absolutely huge went and not just for Charlie and and his mind that the team and its actual record because. And look they would they went through that scoring drought. From Saturn better from Friday night through Sunday and then all of a sudden sort of in a way that I don't think anybody expected. They all seem sort of surprised by it. Where they break out of that scoring slump and then not only break out of it but also win the game with with two harm could really they had two chances to have a walk off win. But Cliff Lee got stuck on first base help but it was a it was a good it was a good weekend from another strong outing for John some bad news that is when Ryan Howard he's got. Bad left knee and Charlie and doesn't expect him to play tomorrow also Carlos I haven't MRI. On Monday to determine what's up. With his hamstring how big are these injuries absolutely Brigham and when you look at a team that has struck despite the fact that they won the game on Sunday. They're team that struggled to score and those are two of your better bats. In that lineup and both Howard and grocery said that they were database so you don't know when you're gonna get these guys back it didn't sound like they were in any danger at least not a Howard's. Side of of being on the DL right now but right now nobody knows I but the good news is the next team up. Is those struggling shall we say the floundering fish the Miami Marlins the Phillies get to play them for three games even the bring. Back power forward in the five man rotation how do you like that are shaping up the least experience I think for the Phillies you gotta be pretty excited after coming off of a series where you were you squeak out this last one here after having his scoring John you see the Marlins had the the Marlins in the Mets have been. Sort of panacea for everything that ails the Phillies this season so for them. Then it's looking pretty good and certainly they have forgot what happened last on the face to face when they dropped the last two of four games at right here at Citizens Bank Park for John is Marshall Harris.
